Debbie learned to ride a bicycle at age nine but did not own one until she turned sixteen when her family moved to Canada. Always sporty she played various sports at a competitive level including women’s lacrosse and netball from secondary school through to university. She took up cycling in 2001, joining a local bicycle user group.
Looking for challenges Debbie has participated in the Sydney to ‘Gong Ride, Cycle Sydney, and Cycle Sportifs such as Blayney to Bathurst 70 km race and Canberra’s Tour de Femme, a 20 km women only race. In 2009, Debbie competed in the Sydney Masters Games womens road race and achieved a top ten finish in her age category. She is also a Master Ride Leader with Bicycle NSW.
Debbie enjoys cycle touring in country NSW and has ridden in Tasmania, New Zealand and France where she has ridden up the iconic Alpe d’Huez and Col de Galibier .
She attained her AustCycle Teacher Accreditation Level 1 in 2012 and has a Cycle Skills Coach Certificate, First Aid Certificate and Working with Children Certificate. Debbie has also completed the Sports Nutrition Course for Dietitians at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
Debbie coaches both children and adults and derives much pleasure seeing her students learning, improving and enjoying cycling.
